According to the AP (Associated Press) today, Daniel Petric, age 17, has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for the October 2007 shooting of his parents. The shooting took place after the teen had been banned from playing Halo3. Videos of the trial and sentencing after the jump. (more…)

This image instantly popped in my mind when I saw the new July cover of Game Informer.

Whether Max Payne is a bad-ass, ex-cop or a fat, ugly, and bald dude, I still love him and can’t wait for Winter ‘09.

1up.com posted a video demoing the new skateboard peripheral for Activision’s next installment in the Tony Hawk series Tony Hawk: Ride. While this most certainly offers a fresh way to play, is it enough to breathe new life into this stale series? (more…)

1vs100

It’s been 11 days since the launch of the “1 vs 100″ beta and I must say, I really enjoy it. After the forth or fifth show it did begin to feel a bit stale, but I think any trivia game would feel that way when you’re playing it for two hours everyday. If Microsoft really pushes this Primetime Channel and actually figures out a way to add variety to their interactive programs, they might be on their way to the primetime revolution they speak about.

Just imagine: instead of your family getting together every night to watch some horrific reality show about people with 20 children or some guy with a bus full of whores, you all play a nice, fun game of trivia. Though if your family is anything like mine (or most American families), we’d taunt, curse, and scream at each other until someone punches someone in the face. Then someone always gets stabbed and rushed to the emergency room where we kiss and make up until we come home and cry and drink ourselves to sleep. The vicious cycle never ends…

But let’s be positive just for once! :-)

What do you think about the beta and more importantly, what do you think about The Primetime Channel? Does Microsoft have the power to change how the American family finds entertainment at night? Or are you nervous that they might be taking away your only escape from the harsh realities of the real world? DISCUSS!

To me, watching the E3 conferences on G4TV this year was like a football fan watching the Super Bowl (or like me watching the Super Bowl, another thing that people are surprised to see me get into, mainly because I’m a indie rocker/nerd). The Microsoft pre-show was more than thrilling, bringing us Project Natal, Crackdown 2, Modern Warfare 2, and Splinter Cell: Conviction (just to name a few). Ubisoft’s developer conference was a borefest. Assassin’s Creed 2 looked fantastic, but I was really hoping to see Beyond Good and Evil 2. I couldn’t wait to see what Nintendo was going to bring the next morning.

Wednesday morning I woke up bright and early, made some coffee and turned on the TV to see that Sarah Palin looking lady talking about another “Super Mario Bros.” rehash. Not excited. More casual gamer-oriented drivel follows. More Reggie Fils-Aime. More boredom. Finally, some “core” gamer stuff. Mild excitement. Excitement passes. Tears begin to flow. Sleep comes. Heavy drinking. Sleeeep.

I wake up with one thing on my mind: What the hell is the Wii Vitality Sensor?

Here’s a video of Nintendo President Satoru Iwata speaking about this new device: (more…)

I suppose that word of the day is “Money”, so let’s talk about another company’s supposed greed.

It’s been a rough week for what I feel is one of the best developers in video games, Valve. Following the debut of the bloody-great trailer for their newly announced Left 4 Dead 2, the gamer community has been less than thrilled with the company. Valve, a developer long-thought of as a consumer-minded entity amongst money-hungry crap-peddlers is being accused of giving gamers the shaft.

Their crime? Ripping gamers off by over charging for content.

Left 4 Dead was released on November 18, 2008 with a $60 price tag (the norm for games nowadays) and some truly positive reviews. The game is one of the coolest, fastest, and all-around fun multiplayer experiences there is. Despite all of these positives, a slew of gamers openly expressed that the game is not worth the dough.

Now I don’t completely agree with this statement, but they do indeed have a point. The game has four shipped maps and two modes of play. Fight the zombies or fight the humans. Is this worth $60 to you? Not to me. Lucky for us, I believe that Valve understands this, and that’s why the price dropped to $40 at most places (a price that I think is perfect) and the “Survival” expansion wound up being completely free, and how often do you see that in this day and age of DLC? (Valve isn’t like Capcom, who charged $5 for Resident Evil 5 Versus mode and Street Fighter 4 costumes already on the disc. I still laugh when ever I read this Consumerist Article). I think everyone felt pretty good about that.

Then came Microsoft’s pre-E3 conference where we saw this trailer…

Today is the day all of us WaW players have been waiting for! Map Pack 2 and DOUBLE XP are here RIGHT NOW, so start fragging already! I’ve gone from level 22 to 25 in just 3 matches! At this rate, I’ll be 2nd prestige by tonight!

I’ve been able to spend about an hour so far on both Banzai and Sub Pens. The former is a really beautiful map with a set up that I’d compare with the MP1 Station map (a straight shot down the middle with tunnels along the sides; the latter is a killbox, though I’d say it’s a little more tactical than Dome, the map that which this new one is compared.

I’ll be back later with more thoughts on Corrosion, and of course… NAZI ZOMBIES! See ya on Live!
